INTERNET OF THINGS AND ITS SECURITY FLAWS

I was completely fascinated by the Internet of things, the whole concept excites me. Smart TVs, smart cars, smart houses etc. What's cooler than your fridge ordering for supplies when you run out of them?

But getting into cybersecurity has somehow reduced the excitement for me knowing the security flaws that come with IoT.
IoT involves connecting billions of devices and the number keeps increasing. Most IoT products don't get updated regularly while some do not even get updated at all. This means that the security of a device at the time of purchase cannot be guaranteed a few years after. It becomes prone to hackers and other security issues.
Other security flaws associated with IoT include but not limited to:
- IoT malware and ransomeware
- Data security and privacy concerns (mobile, web, cloud)
- Small IoT attacks that evade detection
- Home invasions.

Is Nigeria ready for technology like Internet of things?
